We experience feelings and emotions from well before the event of our birth. They can be intense, or frightening, or wonderful. They can also be the most misunderstood, and consequently mistreated, gifts we have as human beings. We judge them, repress them, discount them, drug them, worship them, and run from them. Yet, what a bore to be without them! Life fully lived is life filled with feeling! View more Simply Well - "Breathe for Life" - John W. Travis, MD, MPH Many languages use the same word for both breath and spirit, or life force. In "Breathe for Life" John W. Travis, M.D., M.P.H., encourages you to start paying attention to your breathing as a form of relaxation, stress reduction, and healing. Breathing consciously not only will relieve tension and help quiet any fear, it can also relieve pain. So before you reach for the aspirins, the antacid tablets, or the telephone to call your doctor, do some breathing. View more 101 Exercises for the Soul - "Let Your Heart Decide" - Dr. Bernie Siegel Sometimes we get into a rut and find ourselves constantly tired or depressed, so that even taking time off or resting doesn't seem to change the way we feel. Three of the top 4 purposes of the National Prevention and Health Promotion Council established under the Obama-Pelosi healthcare overhaul explicitly reference "integrative health care." That Council has issued its "Draft Framework" for a "National Prevention and Health Promotion Strategy." December 5, 2010 is the last day for input. The framework envisions "moving the nation from a focus on sickness and disease to one based on wellness and prevention."
